BioNova Natural Pools – Weekly News

Dear friends,

Here’s what’s happening at BioNova® Natural Pools North America…

A Successful Webinar on the Design and Function of Natural Swimming Pools

This past Wednesday, BioNova® presented an extremely successful webinar focused on the design and function of natural swimming pools. Hosted by our Vice President, Allen Schnaak, the session drew in landscape architects, environmentalists, swimming pool designers, and homeowners interested in exploring eco-friendly alternatives to traditional swimming pools. The webinar provided an in-depth exploration of how natural swimming pools function, their benefits, and how to design and maintain them for optimal performance and beauty.

Understanding Natural Swimming Pools
The webinar began with an informative session on the basic principles behind natural swimming pools, detailing the key elements that make them unique, such as the use of bio-filters and plant-based filtration systems. Emphasized was put on how NSPs rely on the power of plants and beneficial bacteria to remove contaminants and balance water quality without the need for harsh chemicals.

Design Principles for Natural Swimming Pools

A significant portion of the webinar was dedicated to the design aspects of natural swimming pools. Allen highlighted several design principles that ensure a visually appealing, functional, and sustainable pool. Several examples of successful NSP installations were also presented, showcasing a variety of designs, from small backyard pools to large, resort-style natural swimming environments

Maintenance and Sustainability

One of the most frequently asked questions from attendees centered around the maintenance requirements of natural swimming pools. Allen clarified that while NSPs require attention, they are not difficult to maintain. Routine tasks include monitoring water levels and netting out debris. The maintenance of the biological filtration system was also discussed in detail, emphasizing the importance of regular cleaning of the biological filters and media. Allen also shared strategies for seasonal maintenance to ensure that the pool stays in top condition year-round, whether it’s dealing with debris in the autumn or preparing for winter in colder climates.

However, these tasks are generally no more labor-intensive than maintaining a chemical pool. Especially when using robotic and automated vacuumed systems.

Conclusion

The success of the webinar highlights a growing trend toward eco-conscious pool design and reinforces the importance of educating the public on sustainable alternatives. Natural swimming pools are not just a passing trend—they represent a shift toward more harmonious, environmentally responsible living spaces that integrate seamlessly with nature.
